NEW PATIENTS
If you have recently
registered with us, you are invited to see the practice nurse for a general
health check. This helps us to ensure continuity of care from your previous
practice.
HEALTH PROMOTION
Regular
clinics are offered with the nurses. We recommend a well- person check for all
patients with the nurse every three years.
WELL ELDERLY
If you are over 75 years old a clinic is available at the surgery to give a
general health assessment. If you are not fit enough to attend the surgery a
practice nurse could visit you to give health advice.
CONTRACEPTION
The practice provides a full range of contraceptive services including fitting
coils and caps.
CERVICAL SMEARS
It is recommended that women should have smears every three years from 25 to 65
years. Please make an appointment with our practice nurse.
PREGNANCY
Midwife antenatal clinics are held on Tuesday and Thursday afternoon. The
doctors provide antenatal appointments during their surgeries. A midwife is
available 24 hours a day to offer advice about your pregnancy if you are
worried. Pre-pregnancy advice is available via the practice nurse.
MINOR SURGERY
Some minor surgical procedures are performed at the practice. For example,
treatment of in-growing toenails, removal of cysts and other skin lesions.
Please make an appointment with Dr. Bolsher to discuss your suitability for any
of these procedures.
DENTAL CARE
If you have a dental problem please contact your dentist - not your GP. Dentists
will provide emergency treatment. If you do not have a dentist you can contact
the Nottingham Emergency Dental Service (NEDS) via the NHS direct number 0845
4647.
CHILD HEALTH/IMMUNISATION CLINIC
Wednesday 1.30 - 3.30pm
The health visitors and practice nurse run this clinic. Immunisations are by
appointment between 2:00 and 3:00pm. Please DO NOT bring your child to this
clinic if they are unwell. If you cannot bring your child for immunisation at
this time, we will always be happy to arrange an appointment during surgery
hours.
It is extremely important that all children are protected from serious
life-threatening infectious diseases and there are very few reasons for not
having immunisation. The current recommended schedule is in your red child
health booklet. If you have any concerns please discuss these with the health
visitor/practice nurse/doctor.
VISITING STAFF
A consultant psychiatrist, psychologist, nurse practitioner in mental health and
consultant community paediatrician also regularly hold clinics at Stenhouse
Medical Centre.
ARNOLD COUNSELLING
Non-NHS counsellors are available to see patients. A list of counsellors and
their fees is available at reception. You may contact the counsellor direct.
New Leaf
New Leaf is an NHS service in Nottingham that helps smokers who want to quit.
Telephone: 934 9526, 24-hour helpline: 0800 1690169. Leaflets are available at
reception. Clinics are held at Stenhouse Medical Centre, Arnold Health Centre,
Daybrook Health Centre and Killisick Community Centre.
MINOR ILLNESS
For a lot of common illness there is no specific cure and they will resolve with
time and simple remedies available without prescription. Your community
pharmacist is available to advise you. Ordinary coughs and colds, sore throats
and stomach upsets fall into this category. Viruses, which do not respond to
treatment with antibiotics, generally cause them. Please therefore don’t expect
your doctor to prescribe a drug for every problem. Discussion and advice may be
far more useful and free from side effects. We feel it is important that all
families should keep a reasonably stocked medical cabinet at home to deal with
minor ailments.
